Thank you for considering the 2008 Spartan Debate Institutes. This section provides information about the deadlines, acceptance policies, and deposits for each of the programs we offer. If you have any questions, please email us at debate@msu.edu.

Admissions Policy: We employ a "monthly rolling admissions" policy, meaning that we release admissions decisions and information at the conclusion of every calenday month. The deadline for consideration of your application in a given montly cylce is the 20th of that month. For example, an application received March 20th is guaranteed a decision at the end of March. An application recieved March 25th is guaranteed a decision by the end of April.

Acceptance Policy: Selective Acceptance, based on student merit and space considerations. The four-week program will have a maximum of 100 students. Applications will be evaluated based on many factors, including prior success, coach recommendations, number and quality of tournaments attended, prior institute experience, and upward potential. Of the students accepted into the 4-week camp, a maximum of 24 will be admitted into the Strategy Forum that occurs during week five. Students not participating in the 4-week program may be accepted into the 5th Week Strategy Forum, but only if space is available.

Application Deadline: May 9 , 2008. We need to receive completed applications by this date. Students will be notified of their admission status (accepted, rejected, or wait-listed) within two weeks of when their application is received. Because we review applications as students apply, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure a spot at the camp.

Deposit:

Regular Applicants can apply without sending in a deposit. If accepted, students will have one week from the date of their acceptance to confirm their attendance with a $600 deposit. Failure to submit a deposit on time may result in the forfeiture of admission. Deposits are non-refundable, and may be made by check, money order, or at http://debate.msu.edu/payment.html.

Early Deposit Discount: Students who send in their application and $600 deposit by April 11, 2008 will receive a $150 discount off the total price of 4-week tuition if they are accepted. Students who are not accepted can either have their deposit applied to another session of the SDI or have their payment refunded. Deposits are non-refundable for accepted students.

Payment Deadline: After the deposit is submitted, the balance of the tuition is due at or before registration on July 6th, 2008.Please do not pay the balance of tuition until you have received your acceptance and confirmation.

What to expect after applying: Each applicant will receive an email confirming our receipt of their application. Accepted students will receive packets with their admissions confirmation, a medical form, a university release form, and additional information to be reviewed and/or filled out by the student and their parents at the conclusion of that monthly admissions cycle (for more information about our admissions cycle, click here).

Acceptance Policy: Open Acceptance, as long as your application and deposit are received on time.

Application Deadline: Friday, May 16th. We need to receive completed applications by this date. Late applications will be reviewed, but we cannot guarantee acceptance to students who apply after the deadline.

Deposit: An initial deposit check or money order for $300 payable to "Michigan State University" should be sent when you submit your application. This year, we can also accept online payment with Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express. To make a credit card payment, please go to http://debate.msu.edu/payment.html. Applications are not complete until deposits are received. Deposits are non-refundable.Please do not pay the balance of tuition until you have received your acceptance and confirmation.
