Carly Watson

Director of Debate

Carly joined the Honors College in 2011. As a student at MSU, she won the 2010 National Debate Tournament. Winner of the 2020 American Debate Association Excellence in Coaching Award, Carly coached teams to the semifinals of the NDT with MSU. Carly previously worked as an assistant debate coach at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington where she coached a top ten team to the octofinals of the NDT. Prior to being named the Director of Debate, Carly served for nearly ten years at the Debate Team Project and Events Coordinator. She can be reached by email at wunderl3@msu.edu.

Will Repko

Head Debate Coach 

Will has been the debate coach at MSU since 1996. He joined Michigan State University's staff after coaching at East Lansing High School where his teams won several Michigan State Championships and the 1995 NCFL National Championship. Will's success has continued in his college coaching career where he has catapulted Michigan State to an era of national prominence and excellence, including national championships in 2004, 2006, and 2010. Will was named the 2000 College Coach of the Year. Will also founded the Spartan Debate Institute.

Assistant Debate Coach 

Kevin joined the MSU Debate Team in 2021 after working as an assistant debate coach at Glenbrook North High School (IL). Kevin's previously coached at Berkeley Preparatory School (FL), University of Miami, and Gulliver Preparatory (FL). He has coached debaters to win top speakers and champions of the National Speech and Debate Association National Championship, and to late elimination rounds at the National Debate Coaches Association National Championship and the Tournament of Champions.

Debate Coaching Aide

Bruce as been coaching with MSU Debate since 2019 and has worked with the Spartan Debate Institute since 2017. Prior to joining MSU Debate, Bruce coached at Wayne State University where he coached several first-round-at-large teams at the National Debate Tournament.
