Two pairs of teams from Michigan State University Debate will compete in the National Debate Tournament, marking the 22nd consecutive season that the university has qualified for competition.
“MSU has one of the strongest college track records in qualifying for the National Debate Tournament,” said Debate Head Coach Will Repko. “Our students have worked hard this season and will be prepared heading into the national tournament later this month.”
Nearly 80 teams from across the country will compete at the 72nd annual National Debate Tournament, which will be held at Wichita State University from March 21-27. The topic for this year’s competitive season has been whether or not the United States should establish a national health care system.
Team members representing MSU include:
- Alex Brown, sophomore, social relations and policy
- Lena Grossman, sophomore, political theory and constitutional democracy
- Lauren Pepper, sophomore, zoology and public policy and member of the Honors College
- Ezra Serrins, freshman, James Madison College
Grossman and Serrins will compete as a pair, and qualified for the national tournament by competing in an earlier district competition. Brown and Pepper, competing as a pair, earned a second round bid to compete in the national tournament.
