Michigan State University Debate finished in the top 32 out of 122 teams competing at the Georgia State University Atlanta season open tournament last week.
Representing MSU were zoology and public policy senior Lauren Pepper and political theory and constitutional democracy junior Jack Scullion. They defeated teams from Harvard University, the University of Iowa, the University of Kansas, Wake Forest University and New York University before being defeated in elimination debates by the University of Louisville.
Also competing at the Atlanta Season Opener were political theory and constitutional democracy junior Duvall Adair and senior Lena Grossman, comparative cultures and politics junior Ezra Serrins and economics freshman Kyler Campion.
“It’s exciting to see the team’s hard work pay off at the first tournament of the year. It’s a long season but we have a lot to build on going forward,” said Will Repko, head coach.
The MSU Debate team is part of the Honors College.
