MSU Debate Team Announces 2021 Fall Semester Competition Schedule

Michigan State University Debate has set their competition schedule for the 2021-22 intercollegiate debate season.

Because of COVID-19, many fall tournaments will occur online. The full schedule is as follows:

Northwestern Season Opener, 9/18-9/20

JW Patterson Debates at Kentucky, 10/2-10/4

Wayne State Ziegelmueller Invitational, 10/22-10/24

Harvard Tournament, 10/30-11/1

ADA Fall Championship, 11/12-11/15

Franklin R. Shirley at Wake Forest University, 11/12-11/15

Since many of the tournament provide options to debate online, MSU Debate is able to have more students participate and can compete at multiple tournaments on the same weekends.

MSU Debate currently has 15 undergraduate students planning to compete in the upcoming season. Students have a variety of majors from across campus.

“Debate really is uniquely co-curricular,” said Will Repko, MSU Debate Head Coach. “Students have a variety of backgrounds and interests and that’s what make them such a great group to work with.”

The season-long topic for the 2021-2022 academic season asks whether the United States should increase prohibitions on anticompetitive behavior by expanding the scope of its antitrust laws.

“Our students have been working extremely hard in advance of classes to prepare for the season. We’re excited for the year to start so everyone can see how much they’ve improved,” said Kevin McCaffrey, MSU Debate Assistant Coach.

The MSU Debate team is part of the Honors College.
